About HRCC

Hampton Roads Computer was formed in the spring of 1988.  Jim Nichols was there at the beginning of the computer revolution serving as a NAVY Electronics technician from 1977-1983 and then working for a local 2 way radio company from 1983-1988 first fixing General Electric printers and later forming their computer department and offering Leading Edge clone computers within a year of the introduction of IBM personal computer that started it all. From 1988 on Hampton Roads Computer was instrumental in the forming of the local repair facilities for both the Navy in Norfolk and the Air Force at Langley. We helped train the first technicians for SIMA and the small computer maintenace facility at Langley. Hampton Roads grew to the 3rd largest Zenith service center in the nation in the early 1990's and Jim Nichols sat on the Zenith Service center advisorary board.  As the years went on we always stuck to our roots which are SERVICE, REPAIR, and CUSTOMER SUPPORT. We supported PC's and other hardware from the days of MSDOS through the early versions of Microsoft Windows right up through Windows 8 for PC's and Windows 2012 for servers.

Early on we realized the value and strength of Training, Certification, Authorization. Novell lead the world in small business networking in the early 90's before Microsoft developed server software and Jim Nichols became a Novell CNE in 1993 (Certified Network Engineer)  and HRCC became a Novell Authorized Gold Reseller. When SCO Unix started to look like a player we invested many hours learning SCO Unix. Jim Nichols became an Authorized SCO Unix Instructor and HRCC an authorized Unix training center in 1995. Through all that we continued to build, sell, and support Personal computers, networks and servers. Along the way we became a Microsoft partner and maintained our expertise in Microsoft products. Jim Nichols is a Microsoft Certified MCITP/EA (Microsoft Certified IT Professional Enterprise Administrator needing only 1 certification to be a MCT (Microsoft Certified Trainer)

At Hampton Roads Computers it is our goal to stay one of two steps ahead of our customers needs. We are here for you.
